Introduction

Titan/cPCI adapters provide two or four asynchronous RS-232 and/or RS-422/485 serial ports for data collection devices, barcode readers, time clocks, scales and other industrial automation and data communication equipment. Titan/cPCI is an ideal industrial strength solution for process control/industrial automation and data communication applications requiring single node or multi-drop communications over short or long distances using cPCI bus compatible computers.

High Speed, High Performance Communications

Achieve rapid data transfer rates up to 1.8342 Mbps. Titan/cPCI adapters use state of the art 16C950 quad UARTS with 128 bytes of transmit and receive FIFO buffers to offload interrupt handling and buffering from the main CPU, thus improving overall system performance. The 32-bit, 33Mhz PCI bus interface offers high bandwidth for your data communications.

Hardware Flexibility

Titan/cPCI offers hardware flexibility and adaptability for your application. You can configure each port's electrical interface, baud rate, parity, data and stop bits independently and various connector options are offered to suit your needs. Titan/cPCI supports three RS-422/485 modes: Full Duplex, Half Duplex and Multi-drop Slave.

Hardware Reliability

Titan/cPCI adapters provide IEC1000-4 compatible multi-strike surge suppression on all signals, all ports. Optical isolation up to 3.0K VAC peak to peak on each port is also available as an option. This makes the Titan/cPCI an excellent choice for mission critical applications that require highly reliable and rugged serial communications. Protection against electrical disturbances, spikes and surges means fewer failures, less downtime.

Software Compatibility

Titan/cPCI adapters offer compatibility with existing standard serial drivers for many of the most popular operating systems such as: QNX, Linux and Windows NT. This provides you with more software flexibility for your communication needs.

Rear I/O Options

These robust rear panel I/O options for the Titan/cPCI are available in two 3U versions: Rear I/O and Rear I/O Opto. These reliable additions allow the convenience of rear I/O connectivity for your CompactPCI application, while maintaining high performance and reliability.

  1. Rear I/O: Available in 2 or 4 ports, this board will work with any serial line interface present in the front Titan/cPCI. It includes multi-strike surge protection on every pin, every port.
  2. Rear I/O Opto: Available in 2 or 4 ports, it offers RS-232 or RS-485 line interface options, with support for full duplex, auto multi-drop slave and auto half duplex. It includes 3.0 kV of true optical isolation, port to port, and supports speeds up to 921.6 kbps (RS-485).

Important:

  1. You must have the corresponding number of Titan/cPCI serial ports installed in the front I/O in order to use a Titan/cPCI Rear I/O or Titan/cPCI Rear I/O Opto adapter in your system.
  2. When you have a Titan/cPCI Rear I/O adapter installed the corresponding number of ports in the front I/O section are not available.
