Introduction

The DIMM-PC/COMBO2 is an add-on module for the Kontron® DIMM-PC® series. It is a combination of the three single modules DIMM-PC/VGA2, DIMM-PC/ETN1 and DIMM-PC/COM1. The VGA LCD parts highly integrated VGA controller can directly drive monochrome, passive color (STN) and TFT displays. The connected display is automatically recognized via cable configuration and the timing is correspondingly adjusted - plug and play. Resolutions on CRT go up to 1024x768, however on LCD maximum resolution is limited to 800x600. A high graphic performance is achieved by means of special features such as hardware cursor, color expansion, 32 Bit memory and 16 bit I/0 access, 1 MByte graphic memory and a 128 kByte PROM holding the VGA-BIOS are onboard. The controllers I/O addresses are software configurable via DOS setup program.

The Ethernet part is equipped with the Crystal LAN® CS8900 ISA Ethernet adapter from Crystal Semiconductor following the IEEE802.3 standard and supports half- or full-duplex operation in ISA Bus computers on 10 Mbps Ethernet networks. The serial part is equipped with the SMC 37C665 I/O-controller and adds two more serial ports to a DIMM-PC® system. The signals of the serial ports are available on the DIMM-I/O connector in TTL levels. The customer can decide to use different types of interfaces (RS232, RS485, TTY etc.) by adding his own driver circuitry on his base board.

The DIMM-PC/COMBO2 is designed for a 144pin DIMM connector known from notebooks as memory socket. Note that this connector is different to the used for the DIMM-PC/CPU itself. The pinout of DIMM-PC/CPU and DIMM-PC/COMBO2 are well considered, so an easy and short routing on the customers design is possible (a direct pin to pin connection).
