Introduction

Kontron decided to use the standard SODIMM memory outline socket for its range of DIMM-PCs. The SODIMM sockets, used extensively in notebook technology, are small, robust, high density sockets and are hence ideal for use in embedded designs. The CPU modules use a 5V SODIMM socket and I/O modules use 3.3V sockets. The two modules differ by the offset of a notch in the center, which makes it impossible to inadvertently insert a CPU module into an I/O socket and vice-versa. These modules are available from standard component manufacturers such as AMP.
