Introduction

Kontron's ETX®-OH extends availability and reliability of the established form factor ETX®. It is a successor product for existing ETX® designs. ETX®-OH raises your investment protection for your ETX® designs.

Based on the AMD A55E Controller Hub, this latest addition to the Kontron ETX ® 3.0 Computer-on- Module family covers a wide performance range with the AMD T40E, T40R, T52 and T56N single and dual core processors in order to address exact application requirements. The Kontron ETX®-OH offers superior HD graphics capabilities with support for the latest 3D graphics with DirectX 11 and OpenGL 3.2. It also enables brilliant and smooth playback of high resolution BluRay and video streams of up to 1080p thanks to the integrated Unified Video Decoder. Also, it is the first ETX® module that offers native support for DP++ (DisplayPort/HDMI/DVI) onboard, allowing the latest display technology to be connected without changes to the carrier board, making upgrades simple and fast. Additionally, Kontron offers a dedicated graphics adapter from DisplayPort to LVDS. In combination with the native dual-channel LVDS via the ETX® connectors, the Kontron ETX®-OH can be used to control two digital displays independently. Through the use of the ETX® 3.0 Computer-on- Module, PCI and ISA-based applications can be updated to latest dual-display technology with HD content. This comes together to make the new Kontron ETX®-OH the ideal solution for applications in the infotainment, kiosk and medical markets where high performance and low energy consumption are required.

Heatspreader Concept

The heat-spreader is a 2mm thick aluminium plate. It provides a thermal interface surface for heat removal from the ETX module. The heat-spreader is thermally coupled to the CPU die or package surface, and it may also be coupled to other heat generating devices on the module (e.g. chipset, vga chip). The heat spreader is not intended as a heat sink, although it may be suitable for this purpose on low power modules operating under benign conditions.

Kontron have two different heatspreaders for the ETX-OH. One with threaded post and one with through hole posts. Kontron also have two heatspreader/heatsink assemblies (again one threaded, one through hole). The heatsink is 15 mm tall (in addition to the heat spreader thickness which is 2mm). Drawings of all four assemblies are available on request.
