Introduction

The ETXexpress Evaluation carrier board is designed to allow embedded application developers to get up and running quickly on the ETXexpress modular platform, giving them a head start on the total system design. Simply select an ETXexpress CPU module, then Plug & Go. The ETXexpress Eval is a microATX size carrier board offering new interfaces for PCI Express, PCI Express Graphics, and SATA in addition to USB 2.0, VGA, Gigabit Ethernet and more. The ETXexpress Eval also offers “plug and work" LCD display support with readily available LCD adapter cables based on Kontron‘s smart JILI interface. Kontron‘s ETXexpress family of Computer-On-Modules (COMs) are fully compliant with the PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturer‘s Group (PICMG) COM Express Specification. With a complete array of connectors brought out on this carrier board, it serves as a reference design for other more customized variations. The ETXexpress format represents a more cost effective replacement to time and resource consuming full custom designs. Time to market is dramatically reduced and future upgrades are as simple as choosing a new ETXexpress CPU module. Therefore, the total cost of ownership of the end design is improved as well.
