Introduction

Just launched by Diamond Point is a top performing PC/104-Plus CPU board, the MOPSlcdLX from Kontron, integrating an AMD LX800™ processor capable of running at clock speeds up to 500MHz with passive cooling only. It is also available as a PC/104 only board.

Supplied with a low profile heatsink which sits lower than the PC/104 stack, the board eliminates the need for any fan assisted cooling via it’s extremely low power consumption of 5 watts at 500MHz. This fanless operation enhances reliability whilst significantly reducing space, cost and time-to-market.

The versatile PC/104-Plus format variant offered by the MOPSlcdLX enables a wide variety of application options within a single board, from regular ISA bus I/O card expansion right up to fast data transfer over high-speed PCI bus. For less demanding applications, the CPU speed is adjustable via BIOS in increments down to 200MHz.

This highly-integrated CPU board from Diamond Point includes PCI graphics, 10/100Base-T Ethernet, 2 x USB2, 2 x RS232C, EIDE (UDMA-33), floppy disk, printer and PS/2 keyboard/mouse interfaces. Darkboot, LANboot, watchdog timer, power fail-detect circuitry and real-time clock facilities are included on-board.

On-chip is a high-speed graphics engine capable of driving CRT and TFT LCD displays which supports up to 1600 x 1200 resolutions at 32-bit colour. It incorporates 8MB to 254MB shared UMA video graphics memory (set via BIOS). JILI, Kontron’s Intelligent LVDS Interface, will automatically recognize which type of display is connected and will independently set all video parameters.

Via a 200-pin DDR-SODIMM socket, the chipset of the MOPSlcdLX supports up to 1GB of DDR-SDRAM operating at speeds of up to 400MHz. Also provided is a 44-pin 2mm IDE port for attaching mass storage drives. Available separately is the Kontron chipDISK, a solid-state flash drive available in sizes up to 1GB, designed specifically for mounting to Kontron’s PC/104 board range.

In common with all MOPS PC/104 boards, the MOPSlcdLX offers JIDA (Kontron’s Intelligent Device Architecture) integrated within the BIOS. JIDA allows hardware independent access to the MOPS PC/104 features which cannot be accessed via standard APIs, including voltage and temperature levels, LCD backlight brightness, boot counter and run time meter.

All boards, including the PC/104-Plus MOPSlcdLX are Plug-and-Work compatible with other MOPS family members, providing the same pin-out for keyboard, COM1 and COM2, 44-pin IDE, 2 x USB, LPT and LAN. This makes for easy exchangeability and upgradeability within the MOPS PC/104 family of products.

The MOPSlcdLX supports Windows® XP, XP embedded, 2000, CE and Linux operating systems.

In compliance with current RoHS directives, the MOPSlcdLX is manufactured lead-free. The board is now available from Diamond Point in volume quantities.
