TinyRAID104Introduction

RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) is a system of improving data storage reliability and performance. These solutions are targeted for high security, high data reliability applications utilizing solid-state disk (SSD) memory storage for increased performance in hostile environment or high vibration situations.

The TinyRAID104 is capable of 84MB of RAID-0 data storage or 48MB at RAID-1 protection. The more sophisticated RAID104 is configured with six SSDs providing RAID-0 function, and two SSDs providing RAID-5 redundancy. Total data storage of the RAID104 is a whopping 288MB. Fault tolerance is brought to a pinnacle, and the RAID104 can withstand the failure of 7 different independent solid state flash drives before the complete data storage subsystem is brought to a halt.

NB

  • RAID-0 is when units are striped (i.e. offers no redundancy).
  • RAID-1 is when units are mirrored (i.e. if one fails then the O/S can continue from another unit)
  • RAID 5 stripes both data and parity information across three or more drives
