Quatech SyncDrive/SyncDrive Plus

For Windows 95/98/Me, OS/2/NT, XP and DOS

SynchDrive

SYNCDRIVE is a synchronous communication driver that provides frame level support for Monosync, BISYNC, HDLC, and SDLC protocols. SYNCDRIVE is available for OS/2, DOS, Windows 3.1 and Windows 95/98/Me. The DOS software is configured as a Microsoft or Borland compatible library (large model) that is linked to an application program. The Windows version and the OS/2 version are implemented by a DLL and a device driver.

Applications interface to SYNCDRIVE through C callable routines and C data structures. The routines provide services for channel configuration, transmitting a buffer, receiving a buffer, setting and monitoring I/O status. The application must build data and protocol headers into a frame buffer before being transmitted, and decode this information on receive. SYNCDRIVE handles start and end flags, synchronization characters, and CRC information on transmit and receive. The C data structures used are for configuration, transmitting and receiving buffers.

SyncDrive Plus

SyncDrive Plus is a frame-level synchronous communication driver for SDLC/HDLC protocols using bit synchronous mode type transfers. It is implemented by a DLL and a device driver designed to work in Windows 2000/XP environments.

Applications interface to SyncDrive Plus through C callable routines and C data structures. The routines provide services for channel configuration, transmitting a buffer, receiving a buffer, setting and monitoring I/O status. Once a handle is opened to the device driver, the application simply reads and writes frames as it would files, without worrying about buffer management, interrupts, or register handling. SyncDrive Plus handles start and end flags, synchronization characters, and CRC information on transmit and receive. The C data structures used are for configuration, transmitting and receiving buffers.

Specification

SYNCDRIVE Specification
Documentation:

SYNCDRIVE comes with a manual that contains descriptions of the C data structures and the C callable routines. A step by step description of how to use SYNCDRIVE in a communication application is provided in the manual.

Hardware Compatibility:

SYNCDRIVE is compatible with Quatech's MPA series (ISA) and MPAP series (PCMCIA) ofsynchronous communication cards.

Sample Programs:

SYNCDRIVE includes program examples for sending and receiving bisynchronous and SDLC frames in loopback, sending, and receiving modes.

Speed:

Not that SyncDrive limits the maximum speed to 1/6 of the max clock rate. I.e. for a card with a max speed of 4mbit, the max speed available from using SyncDrive is 0.67mbit.

To reach 4Mbps, Quatech say that customers need to write custom driver code

Availability:

SYNCDRIVE is included free with the purchase of Quatech synchronous communication cards. It can also be downloaded from Quatech's website
