PCMCIA - refers to PCMCIA (16 bit) and Cardbus (32bit) devices - this technology has been around for many years
EXPRESSCARD - refers to a new PCIexpresss or USB based standard found in new laptops.

PCMCIA and EXPRESSCARD modules are not interchangable - they use different connectors and differ in size.
