Fail-Operational: Triple Redundancy in Hardware

The design of MEN’s safe single-board computers A602 and D602 offer a triple-redundant setup on the hardware level. To the application, they appear as regular single-CPU cards with just one main memory rank. 2-out-of-3 voting in hardware keeps the three CPUs in lockstep. The boards’ method of operation is strictly deterministic, without interrupts and DMA. 

Fail-Safe and Fail-Silent: Dual Redundancy with Redundant Software

The F75P safe computer unites three CPUs on one single board. With redundant software running on it, and with the software instances on the two control processors comparing their output, the board can shut down in case of a fatal fault. The two redundant CPU kernels support a safe RTOS and diversity, while the third CPU can run, e.g., Linux for convenient user interaction. The F75P is also available as a system in the MH50C, a complete customisable SIL4 compliant safe train computer system.

Typically MEN

Being designed to operate in harsh environments, MEN’s safe computers withstand up to -40 to +70°C (+85°C) operating temperature, shock, vibration, drop, resonance, humidity, chemicals etc. They are either developed according to RTCA DO-254, EN 50128/EN 50129 or IEC 61508, often comply with standards like EN 50155 for railways or with the automotive E-mark. They are available up to 10 years and more, thanks to MEN’s superior obsolescence management.
