IntroductionFusion-IO ioDrive - unprecedented single server performance levels with 700MB/sec throughput. Designed around a revolutionary silicon-based storage architecture known as ioMemory, the ioDrive is the world’s most advanced NAND clustering technology with performance comparable to DRAM and storage capacity on par with today's hard disks — giving you the power to improve both memory capacity and storage performance by up to one thousand times. Based on PCI Express x4, which can sustain up to 10 gigabits per-second of raw throughput, the ioDrive has more than enough bandwidth to obtain industry- leading performance from a single card. The ioDrive Duo can easily sustain up to 700 Mbytes/sec of read bandwidth and nearly 120,000 read IOPS. Performance for multiple ioDrive scales linearly, allowing any enterprise to scale performance to three gigabytes per-second (Gbytes/sec) of read bandwidth and over 250,000 read IOPS by using just four ioDrive units. The ioDrive dramatically increases performance such that every server can easily contain the I/O performance of the world's fastest enterprise SAN. SAN ComparisonLets take a comparison against a SAN box which can deliver around 25K IOPS. A SAN box of this kind of performance consists of a server with around 150 enterprise class fibre channel hard disk drives, high end host bus adapters and fibre channel switches. Such a system can typically take up between 30 and 50 rack units. Such a system will cost anything from £250,000 to £300,000 per year (initial cost plus power consumption for that year). Lets see how the ioDrive stacks up:
