Introduction

Fusion-IO ioDrive DUO - unprecedented single server performance levels with 1.5GB/sec throughput.

Designed around a revolutionary silicon-based storage architecture known as ioMemory, the ioDrive is the world’s most advanced NAND clustering technology with performance comparable to DRAM and storage capacity on par with today's hard disks — giving you the power to improve both memory capacity and storage performance by up to one thousand times.

Based on PCI Express x8 or PCI Express 2.0 x4 standards, which can sustain up to 20 gigabits per-second of raw throughput, the ioDrive Duo has more than enough bandwidth to obtain industry- leading performance from a single card. The ioDrive Duo can easily sustain 1.5 Gbytes/sec of read bandwidth and nearly 200,000 read IOPS.

Performance for multiple ioDrive Duos scales linearly, allowing any enterprise to scale performance to six gigabytes per-second (Gbytes/sec) of read bandwidth and over 500,000 read IOPS by using just four ioDrive Duos.

The ioDrive dramatically increases performance such that every server can easily contain the I/O performance of the world's fastest enterprise SAN.

SAN Comparison

Lets take a comparison against a SAN storage array which can deliver around 25K IOPS. A SAN array of this kind of performance consists of a server with around 150 enterprise class fibre channel hard disk drives, high end host bus adapters and fibre channel switches. Such a SAN box can typically take up between 30 and 50 rack units. Such a system will cost anything from £250,000 to £300,000 per year (initial cost plus power consumption for that year).

Lets see how the ioDrive stacks up:

  • An ioDrive Duo is capable of over six times the IOPS of the example SAN array
  • Uses 1% of the power of the example SAN array - costs less to run (environmentally friendly)
  • Costs 1% of the SAN - costs less to purchase
  • Deployed in a single rack (2U to 4U) instead of 30U to 50U - saves lots of rack space
  • Easily installed - its a standard PCIe x8 card
  • Easily expanded - just add another ioDrive
