Introduction

Themis Computer's new TA64™ is the first in a new family of 6U VMEbus computer boards based on the AMD® Turion™ 64 Mobile technology. The TA64 is high performance follow-on to the Themis USPIIe-USB™ Single-Board Computer. The TA64 runs 64-bit Sun Solaris 10 and 32-bit Solaris 9. Hardware compatibility with the USPIIe-USB and a well defined migration path for the Solaris Operating Environment makes the TA64 an easy upgrade choice.

The TA64 includes a Turion 64 Mobile processor running at 1.6 GHz. The Turion 64 Mobile processor runs the complete AMD 64-bit instruction set used on the desktop Athlon™ 64 and the Opteron ™ processors. The TA64 has an on-board PMC Slot and a connector that allows PCI expansion for graphics and PMC carrier cards.

The cost-effective TA64 in a single-slot configuration features a single Gigabit Ethernet port, an IDE port, support for Dual Ultra320 SCSI drives and a single 64-bit PMC slot. Memory is expandable to 4 GBytes of DDR333 memory. The 64-bit PMC slot can be used for local I/O or graphics expansion. Further I/O expansion is available via 64-bit VME PCI carrier cards. Expansion to two or three VME slots with carrier cards provides a significant increase in capabilities.

The 2P2 carrier card offers multiple I/O expansion options, including two additional PMC slots. This expanded I/O configuration provides AC97 audio, a second Gigabit Ethernet port, two multiprotocol serial ports and a software readable front panel rotary switch. These features make it ideal for data and telecommunications applications.

The 2P3 carrier card provides three additional PMC slots, and Themis' optional TGA-7000™ graphics card, providing the opportunity for system specific functionality.
